Specialized Myka HT Disc 2011 Women’s Mountain Bike

Girls and women, this is the mountain bike for you! Whether you’re a growing teenager or a cycling returner of unconfessed years, the Specialized Myka HT 2011 Women’s Mountain Bike has been created to provide comfort and joy.

To start with, the top quality aluminium frame is designed to suit a female physique and sensibilities. The geometry allows for a confident ride and features a low top bar so that you can jump on – and off – with greater ease.

Specialized have also added front forks with women-specific customised suspension that is set to suit your size. This means that the bike handles the humps and bumps of a range of different on and off-road terrains with great aplomb.

In addition, the women-specific features of the 21-gear Specialized Myka HT 2011 include handlebar grips to match smaller hands, as well as a Body Geometry Women’s Riva saddle that is designed with ultimate comfort in mind, even when taking the bike on longer rides.

As you would expect from this leading bike manufacturer, the Myka HT 2011 also comes with numerous good quality components. Derailleurs and gear shifter are Shimano, while the seven-speed gear cassette is SRAM. These components will serve you well and offer many miles of sublime riding

This bike comes with caliper brakes and pads, which are perfect for most uses on road and on country trails. But if you’re keen to take your riding to the next level, perhaps with a bit of downhilling, then the Myka is easy to adapt as it already has the mounts in place for disc brakes.

The bike also benefits from durable double-walled alloy rims that are tough enough to handle the rough stuff and Specialized Fast Trak LK Sport tyres that feature a reduced knob height offering lower rolling resistance while on the roads, yet still providing lots of grip when on the trails.

Of course, the colour and styling of the bike does matter (don’t let the guys tell you it doesn’t because they care too!). This Specialized Myka HT 2011 mountain bike is a striking shade of cool white with blue or red detailing.

So, not only does this bike handle well and suit a range of terrains, it’s also good looking.

Lappiere Zesty 314 FS MTB

Looking for a bike that will go uphill, as well as it goes downhill, and tackles cross country trails with “zest” and energy? Then look no further than the Lapierre Zesty 314 FS mountain bike.

Thanks to the patented OST rear suspension platform, offering a full 140mm of travel, the new Lapierre Zesty 314 can do all things, everywhere.

This is a bike that is super-light, super-versatile and super-efficient and offers great riding anywhere.

The Lapierre has fast become the favourite pick for top mountain bikers and keen off-roaders, and this latest 314 version won’t disappoint. Lapierre have cleverly redesigned the Zesty range, including the pricier and slightly higher-tech Lapierre Zesty 514, to offer a new tapered headtube for added stiffness during the ride, and therefore better rideability.

The 314 come with a frame made from a nice ’n’ light 7005 SL alloy. Front and rear shocks are comfort-leading FOX, while top-class Shimano add smoothness and reliability to the front and back derailleur and chainset.

This version of the Zesty has Fulcrum Red wheel rims and Lapierre’s own-make stem and pro-light seatpost. The saddle is a Fizik, and for anyone who has ridden one of these they’ll know that they offer oodles of comfort for men, and mostly for women, too.

Oh, and this bike just looks so uber-cool. Silver, with black detailing, will mean that you and your Lapierre Zesty 514 314 are the envy of all the guys on the trails (even if they try not to bat an eyelid!).

If you’re looking for a full suspension mountain bike that makes a molehill out of mountains and takes the rough with the smooth on all off-road terrains, choose the Lapierre Zesty 314.

KONA Blast Womens Mountain Bike 2011

The Kona Blast mountain bike is a legend in its own time and one of the most popular choices of hardtail off-road bike ever.

Now the 2011 model has been launched with even better components and detailing. Kona has used Superplastic-formed tubing and the smoothest of weld for the Blast 2011 model, upgrading the aluminum frame from stiff and light to super-responsive and amazingly strong.

It’s a fabulous looking bike, too, with a bright blue and white scheme that will make a grand design statement when out on the muddy trails.

The Rockshox Tora fork – with handy lockout feature – is even more robust than before and will handle some of the rockiest routes and gnarly trails. This is a fork that you can be confident will give you a smooth ride whatever your ride throws at it.

As you’d expect for a mountain bike priced at £574.99, (down from £699.99) the brakes are hydraulic disc. But it doesn’t always follow that they will be Shimano. We’re delighted to see that Kona are living up to their reputation for no-quibble quality with back and front Shimano M445 hydraulic disc brakes.

The saddle is another great feature. The WTB Valcon amounts to a sleek race saddle featuring a smooth and contoured line that is as good on competition circuit as it is for all-day comfort.

And there’s no need to ever worry about making up the steepest climbs or riding at top speeds on the flat, for the Kona Blast has a fantastic 27 gears thanks to a nine-speed Shimano HG30 cassette. The gear ratio was about as perfect as we’ve seen on this level of bike.

We had thought that the Kona Blast couldn’t be improved, but this 2011 model has just proved us wrong. As we said, it’s a legend!

Specialized Hardrock HT Womens Mountain Bike

At £379.99 you’re not always going to come up trumps with a high quality mountain bike, but this Specialized Hardrock HT Womens Mountain Bike knocks socks off other similar priced bikes.

This is the perfect bike for new and budding riders and would suit older children, men and women.

What we really like is that far from looking like an entry level bike, the Specialized Hardrock 2011 has a stylish design that will be sure to turn heads whether out on the trails, riding canal banks or heading to school or the office.

The hard-tail mountain bike benefits from a fully butted premium aluminum frame with a double “ORE” down tube. In layman’s terms this means the frame is light yet durable and compliant yet sturdy.
If you want the technical take on the front suspension of this Specialized Hardrock mountain bike then you’ll want to know that it boasts an upgraded 80mm-travel fork with a pre-load adjustment that is dialed for your size. In other words, if offers the perfect bounce for your weight and to suit a range of easier-going off-road terrains.

This mountain bike also has a long list of good quality components, especially when you consider the price tag. We particularly like the 21 gears with Shimano Acera rapid-fire trigger shifters and Shimano Atlus derailleur.

Whatever the gradient, going up or down, the Specialized Hardrock oozes smoothness and offers rides a big boost of confidence. This bike will get you where you want to go without the need to grind the gears or get off and push.

A light-feel yet proactive braking system also adds to the rider’s feeling of being in control while on two wheels.

Should you want to upgrade to disc brakes at a later date the Specialized designers have added a handy mount point. This is a real bonus if you take up mountain biking and then decide to push your riding up a notch, in which case you’ll be looking for more responsive braking

Lappiere Zesty 514 womens MTB

Lapierre ZESTY 514 FS Womens Mountain Bike

Some mountain bikes are great on the uphill, others are superb on the downhill, and there are those that give their best ride on flatter cross-country routes. But now there’s the Lapierre Zesty 514, which will take you anywhere and everywhere in fantastic style.

It’s thanks to the patented OST rear suspension platform, offering a full 140mm of travel, that this new Lapierre Zesty can do all things with, aherm, tons of zest. Ascents, descents and a wide range of undulating terrain in between are no problem for the new-style “do it all” bike.

A glance at the price tag of £2799.00 reveals that this isn’t the cheapest of full suspension mountain bikes but with a wealth of cracking features and components you’ll be riding this bike with a smile on your face for many years to come.

So what else has the Lapierre Zesty got to offer? The frame comes in a choice of full carbon or 7005 SL alloy, with a new tapered headtube, which adds up to a bike that is stiff in all the right ways. Thankfully the acclaimed French bike designers have not compromised on weight and this men’s bike weighs in at a super light 12.2kg.

Lapierre, we’re swooning in admiration at this lightweight yet strong combo.

Front and rear shocks are comfort-leading FOX, while top-rated Shimano add smoothness and joy to the front and back derailleur, chainset, gears and wheel rims. This is the sort of top-notch spec that many of the pro riders would be looking for so you can be sure it’s perfect for you.

Lapierre have gone for their own trusted stem and handlebars and according to those in the know, the French bike makers only utilise the best a bike can get.

And, if looks matter to you (of course they do!) then the Lapierre Zesty 514 scores around 10 out of 10. White, silver and gold combine in a sleek and gorgeous design that will be sure to catch the eyes of anyone who sees you out on the trails.

If you’re looking for a full suspension mountain bike that makes a molehill out of mountains and a bobsleigh ride out of off-road terrain it’s got to be the Lapierre Zesty 514.
